A group of neighborhood volunteers get together yearly to cut up and sell large oak trees that have fallen down or been cut due to disease/old age/drought around the neighborhood and across the City. We sell it by the truckload ($180.00) or half truckload ($90.00). Just in case you wonder how much wood this is, the photo below is a truckload and is a chord or more. half of a load would be half of a chord or more. If you desire a specific length, we are taking those special orders as well (some people have a specific length need due to the small size of their stove or fireplace). This is always on a first come basis as we usually have a finite amount of wood to sell each year (or season as it typically is). Funds raised will go toward neighborhood enhancements to the park or other worthwhile projects. Contact me if you want some and to get on the list for delivery. Also contact me to volunteer for splitting it all up and delivery. I try to do it twice a year. So if you don't get it the first time, chances you'll get it the second as your name moves up the list as we cut and deliver it. Thanks to all who support this worthwhile fundraising effort. In the past, the Wood For The Hood program has funded matching challenge grants, neighborhood plantings, neighborhood signage, free firewood to needy families (and other local non-profits; 24 deliveries in the 2007 season) and last year for the first time, two wheel chair ramps. Our 2008 project will not come together for several months, so I don't want to spill the beans. But it is going to be the largest project we have accomplished to date! Matching funds for the 2008 project have come from the Bilboa Energy Community Foundation. Without their support, our 2008 project would not be possible!
