DOG WARS
Packs of wild dogs continue to roam Forest Hills Park, especially the end next to the shopping center. They have also been seen on Beverly Drive. Cats are again missing. The pack varies but generally includes a sheppard-mix red female with a white tail tip, two black long hairs, one with short legs, and a brindled dog with short legs. As many as 5 have been seen together at one time.
Call Animal Control. Any time you see one or more dogs roaming loose (i.e. not accompanied by a human) in the park or anywhere in the neighborhood call 560-0630 ASAP. This simple action is very important for keeping the problem prominent and for helping the staff identify and track the dogs. Animal Control (560-0630) operates only M-F, 8:30-5:00. After hours and weekends a message at Animal Control will say call 911. The police department can call Animal Control, who has an 'on call' person 5-9 PM M-F. Lt. Duarte is leading the work being done in this neighborhood. The Director of Durham County Animal Control is Cindy Bailey. Her email address is: cbailey@co.durham.nc.us
Do not tamper with traps set by Animal Control. During a recent attempt to trap several dogs, a Forest Hills neighbor "unset" the trap, apparently out of concern that the family pet would be trapped. Lt. Duarte says that the owner of any tagged dog caught in a trap will be contacted before any action is taken with the dog. Please recall also that the city's leash law requires that all dogs in public places be leashed.
