2005-2006 City Champions

THE DURHAM CUP
Oct.1, 2005: The Forest Hills Terminators (Joe Chambliss, Casey Herbert, and Team Captain Randy Pickle, with alternate John Inman) represented Forest Hills in the first ever city-wide tournament. In a finals championship match lasting 2 hours and 15 min., the Terminators defeated the Alabama coached Old North Durham Neighborhood Association (ONDA) by a score of 42-28. The first hour saw ONDA off to a huge lead. But several key shots by the Terminators turned the tide and the remainder of the game was theirs. The Forest Hills Terminators become the City of Durham Croquet Champions and maintain possession of the Durham Cup they first won during the 2001 matches.

French drainage was added near the end of March and the ponding issues seem to be a thing of the past. But all of the seeded area have not stabalized (as of mid April). So they're on their way back to try to reseed some of the bare spots.

We're working on building 2 brand new world-class courts in another park.

September 30th: The Central Park Cup Challenge Competition * (Due to the Central Park Cup rules allowing only 2 members per team, the Terminators will not be playing as a unit. We believe this is a conspiracy to keep the undefeated Terminators from dominating yet another trophy in Durhams' long croquet history. But their trophy will soon be ours as well when we roll in and kick some grass on the 30th! We'll bring The Durham Cup with us just to remind those who thought they could take it away in victory.)

* denotes entry fee and preregistration required

The Forest Hills Croquet Club was founded on Sept. 19, 1999. We try to play (seasonally) every Sunday afternoon around 7 pm (as weather and court conditions allow). The courts are not maintained after our championship matches in the fall. Maintenance resumes again in the spring. So please come and join us. FHCC uses the standard rules adopted by USCA and Croquet Canada.
The croquet courts are located at the end of Forest Hills Park as you travel down Beverly Drive. You will see it on your right, cut into the grass (across from 27 Beverly Drive). Our only President is Randy Pickle (solely due to the fact that he mows the courts). We are currently seeking a new President. If you qualify (you'll need a lawn mower with bagger attachment and dedication to keep the courts mowed once or twice a week as needed), just contact me and you can be the new President. Unfortunately, mowing is the only duty of the President at this time. The court is available anytime during the week for those that want to play. You'll need to bring your own equipment when you come (other than our scheduled time of play). Please note that our courts are in a public park and this space is used at least twice a week by the Forest Hills Ultimate Frisbee group.

The Forest Hills Croquet Club owes a debt of gratitude to the late Dr. Tom Kerns of Beverly Drive. for the use of his Snapper Comet in getting the course in shape when the Presidents' Snapper is in the shop. In his honor, we dedicate our home court as Tom Kerns Field.
